The world
A neutral grey field with no cast at all — the only colour on the site is the one the prints carry in their shadows.
The mechanic
Selenium converts silver in proportion to the silver present, and a print holds its silver in its shadows. So chroma is a function of density at one fixed hue: 322° in every decile of every plate, and the highlights stay grey.
The control case. An untoned print of the same negative, hung beside its toned twin at the same size with both readouts under them — 4.97 and 0.00.
